After 2 official working days (December 9 and December
10, 2022), the Closing Ceremony of the Annual Meeting of the Asian Law and Society
Association 2022 (ALSA 2022) took place at Sunwah Hall on the afternoon of
December 10, 2022. At the ceremony, Prof. Lynette Chua - President of ALSA
thanked the University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) for
being very attentive and professional in the process of preparing and
organizing the Association. She hoped to have more opportunities to cooperate
with the University in the near future.  In the closing ceremony, ALSA also presented awards to
its members in the past year such as the First prize in the AsianJLS-ALSA
Graduate student article award in 2022 belonging to ACHALIE KUMARAGE - School
of Regulation and Global Governance, Australian National University with the
article “Collective Voices Without Collective Bargaining: Pandemic induced wage
theft claims and worker responses in apparel supply chains”; Nafay Choudhury,
University of Oxford, won first prize at the ALSA Distinguished Book Award for
“Order in the Bazaar: The Transformation of Non-State Law in Afghanistan's
Premier Money Exchange Market,” Law and Social Inquiry 47:292-330 (2022)”; The
ALSA Distinguished Book Award 2022 goes
to Deana Heath - Department of History, the University of Liverpool for the
book "Colonial Terror: Torture and State Violence in Colonial India,
Oxford University Press ( 2021). 
During the Closing Ceremony, the Association also announced the host of the ALSA 2023 Annual Meeting as Sunway University, Malaysia - the largest and most modern university in Malaysia. The theme for ALSA 2023 will be Law, Life, and Sustainable Development. As the first institution in Vietnam to host the annual conference of the Asian Law and Society Association, the VNU University of Law has achieved some significant goals such as bringing great significance in terms of academics, and internationality, contributing to promoting international cooperation in the field of law; improving the international integration capacity of the University; contributing to the university ranking and international reputation of the training institution. ALSA 2022 is a networking forum where scholars and experts from all over the world gather to share scientific ideas, and projects. Besides, this is also an opportunity for international scholars to know more about the culture, country, people, and cuisine of Vietnam. |
